Mark, your guide to Washington from Escape Worldwide.
Washington is packed with interest - the buildings & monuments are superb, it’s one of my favourite cities”
What to do in Washington DC
You could tour the White House or visit the emotional sites of the WWII Memorial and Holocaust Museum. Alternatively, spend your days in historic Georgetown or exploring the free museums of the Smithsonian Institute, and then party in the cool Dupont Circle or Adams-Morgan districts. Our top tip is a tour of the Capitol Building (book in advance), along with the House of Representatives or Senate.
Where to stay in Washington DC
The main attractions in Washington are fairly spread out, so there’s no real ‘central’ location to visit everything. Hotels that have easy access to the hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses work well to our mind. There’s a good selection of options around Dupont Circle, where there are also local restaurants, or in upmarket Georgetown for a more genteel feel. Hotel costs in Washington can fall significantly on the weekend, so bear this in mind when planning your trip.
Holiday ideas to Washington DC
Washington DC makes a perfect short break with a difference, offering a mix of history, sightseeing and modern US culture. It also combines well with other parts of the US, with easy Amtrak train connections to Philadelphia and New York, or flights to most other areas of America.
Washington D.C. is a vibrant city, with a youthful energy that is perhaps not immediately associated with the nation’s capital. It offers a fantastic blend of sightseeing, shopping, entertainment and dining opportunities, and is definitely worth including in any itinerary that takes in the northeast USA region.
