SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1 - UK to Memphis

Fly from London to Memphis, arriving later the same day. On arrival make your way to your chosen hotel, for a two night stay - we have a range of hotels to choose from, and your length of stay in Memphis is flexible.

Day 2 - Memphis

Spend a day exploring fascinating Memphis. For most visitors the main attraction is Elvis Presley’s home of Graceland (the visitor centre is fascinating) but there’s a lot more to Memphis besides Elvis - we love Sun Studios, and the Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel (where Martin Luther King was assassinated) is very moving.

Day 3 - Memphis to New Orleans by Amtrak

Make your way to Memphis Central Station for the early morning train to New Orleans, taking around 9 hours to reach the ‘Big Easy’. On arrival in to New Orleans make your way from the station to your chosen hotel, for a three night stay - we have a range of hotel options to choose from, and your length of stay in New Orleans is flexible.

Days 4-5 - New Orleans

Spend the next few days exploring New Orleans, one of the most fascinating cities in the USA and one that’s quite unlike any other. The French Quarter is packed with historic buildings and plenty to see, and in the evening the area comes alive with music and drinks - it’s always party time in New Orleans!

Day 6 - New Orleans to Natchez

Collect your rental car from the New Orleans airport depot, and head out of town towards Natchez (approx 190 miles / 4 hours, plus stopping time). We’d suggest taking the Great River Road along the banks of the Mississippi, stopping at historic Oak Alley Plantation. Continue via the Louisiana state capital Baton Rouge and pretty St Francisville, arriving in to Natchez in good time to take in some of its renowned architecture. Check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 7 - Natchez to Greenville

Continue north from Natchez to Greenville (approx 170 miles / 3 hours 30 mins, plus stops). There’s plenty to see on the way, and we’d suggest starting by following the historic Natchez-Trace Parkway to Sunken Trace and Rocky Springs. Stop at Vicksburg for its impressive Civil War park (and also a quirky Coca-Cola museum!) before arriving in to Greenville for an overnight stay.

Day 8 - Greenville to Tupelo

It’s a musical day as you head to Tupelo (approx 190 miles / 3 hours 30 minutes plus stopping time). Visit Cleveland and its Grammy Museum and Clarksdale with its links to the Blues. We love Leland and the Kermit the Frog Museum (yes, really!) and historic Oxford is also worth visiting. Tupelo itself is the birthplace of Elvis Presley, and the house itself is now a museum. Check in to your hotel for overnight.

Day 9 - Tupelo to Nashville

We’d suggest travelling via Alabama to Nashville today (approx 225 miles / 4 hours, plus stops), calling in on Muscle Shoals on the way. On arrival in to Nashville drop your car off at the airport depot and make your way to your chosen hotel, for a three night stay - we have a range of hotel options to choose from, and your length of stay in Nashville is flexible. Head to Broadway for live music!

Days 10-11 - Nashville

Spend the next few days exploring Nashville. It’s called ‘Music City’ for a reason, and almost every bar has live music on pretty much constantly. There’s a great atmosphere, and it’s one of the most relaxed cities in the US.

Day 12 - Return

Make your way to Nashville airport for your return flight to the UK, arriving the next day.

Start in Memphis before taking the train to New Orleans. After a few days here collect your car and drive through Louisiana and Mississippi to the birthplace of Elvis at Tupelo, finishing in Nashville the home of country music.
