SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1 - UK to Penang
Fly from Heathrow to Penang, arriving the next day. Departures from other UK airports are also available, please ask for details.

Day 2 - Penang
On arrival in to Penang you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in historic George Town, for a two night stay.Our holidays are very flexible so your durations can be tailored to suit your exact requirements!

Day 3 - Penang George Town

Spend today exploring fascinating George Town. The central area of George Town is UNESCO heritage-listed for its architecture and cultural heritage, so there’s plenty to see and do here.

Day 4 - George Town to Belum

This morning, collect your car and depart Penang, heading from the Belum-Temenggor Rainforest (approx 175 km / 3 hours, plus stops). We’d suggest taking the Penang Bridge to Butterworth before heading inland through Kedah’s beautiful scenery and on to Perak. On arrival check in to the Belum Rainforest Resort for a two night stay. Set overlooking the lake in the Belum-Temenggor Rainforest, this is a great location for exploring some of Peninsula Malaysia's most beautiful scenery.

Day 5 - Belum

Spend the day exploring the 130-million year old Belum-Temenggor Rainforest, the largest expanse of virgin rainforest in Peninsula Malaysia. The area is well-known for its birdlife, and is also home to tapirs, sun bears, tigers and panthers.

Day 6 - Belum to Ipoh

Drive from Belum to Ipoh (approx 170 km / 2 hours 30 minutes, plus stops). The route will take you via the royal capital of Kuala Kangsar, a fascinating town to discover. Kuala Kangsar was the first stronghold of the British in Malaysia, and the birthplace of the country’s rubber industry. We’d recommend visiting the Sultan Azlan Shah gallery, and the beautiful Masjid Ubudiah mosque. On arrival in to Ipoh check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 7 - Ipoh to the Cameron Highlands

This morning explore friendly Ipoh, before heading to the Cameron Highlands (approx 90 km / 2 hours, plus stops). As you leave Ipoh you’ll start to climb in to some of Peninsula Malaysia’s prettiest scenery - take in a strawberry farm on the way to the Highlands. On arrival, check in to your chosen hotel for a two night stay.

Day 8 - Cameron Highlands

Today is free for exploring the beautiful Cameron Highlands, with its tea plantations. We’d thoroughly recommend visiting the BOH Sungai Palas tea centre, where you can wander through the tea plantations, see how tea is made and have a pot of their produce in the visitor centre, with great views across the estate.

Day 9 - Cameron Highlands to Penang

Today head back to Penang (approx 270 km / 4 hours, plus stops). Start by retracing your route to Ipoh, where a visit to one of the Cave Temples is very worthwhile (Perak Tong has a 40 ft seated Buddha, and it’s not far off your route). A stop in Taiping is also very worthwhile - known as both the ‘city of peace’ and also the ‘rain city’, Taiping has beautiful architecture and plenty to see - but pack a brolley! On arrival in to Penang, drop off your car, make your way to your preferred hotel and check in for a five night stay.

Days 10-13 - Penang

It’s now time to relax in Penang. If you can drag yourself away from the beach we’d recommend a trip to Penang Hill, where the temperatures are cooler, the views are great and the temple is colourful!

Day 14 - Penang to UK

Return transfer to Penang airport for your return flight to the UK.

A superb Malaysia Fly-Drive itinerary focusing on the north of Peninsula Malaysia. Start in historic George Town before collecting your car and heading out to the rainforest, Ipoh and the Cameron Highlands. Finish on the beach in Penang.
