SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Day 1 - UK to Kuala Lumpur
Fly from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur, arriving the following day. Departures from other UK airports are also available, please ask for details.

Day 2 - Kuala Lumpur
On arrival in to Kuala Lumpur you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, for a three night stay. We’re very accommodating when it comes to how long you spend in each location, so if three nights here isn’t spot-on for you, just let us know!

Days 3-4 - Kuala Lumpur
Spend a few days discovering vibrant Kuala Lumpur. We love the sightseeing hop-on hop-off buses in Kuala Lumpur, which take in all the main sights and take you a little further out to Titiwangsa Lake Gardens.

Day 5 - Kuala Lumpur to Borneo

Transfer back to Kuala Lumpur airport for your onward flight to Kota Kinabalu. On arrival you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your chosen hotel, for an overnight stay.

Day 6 - Sandakan

Pick up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and transfer to the airport for your flight to Sandakan. Met upon arrival at Sandakan Airport and transfer to Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan. Check in at hotel and day free at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

Day 7 - Sandakan/Sepilok by boat to Abai Jungle Lodge

Leisurely breakfast at your resort before pick up from hotel. Drive for approximately 30 minutes to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Proceed to the free roaming area feeding platform. 10 am feeding of Orang Utan - observe man’s closest relative the Orang Utan being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo. Visit to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, the centre that managed to improve the living condition of the rescued sun bear and released their natural behaviours in the 2.5ha enclosed forest.

Later, depart Sepilok Centre and transfer to the jetty. Take an hours boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary where you will take your lunch at Abai Jungle Restaurant. This is a wonderful journey of discovery which starts from the waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through the magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest. Check in at Abai Jungle Lodge. Late in the afternoon, you will be experiencing a cruise to search for wildlife until the sunsets while enjoying a cup of coffee and by the night falls continue the night cruise to witness the fireflies. Return to the lodge for dinner. After dinner, again experience the Jungle at night at the nature boardwalk to search for birds, snakes, insects and other wildlife with our nature guide.

Day 8 - Pitas Oxbow Lake, Boat to Sukau & Menanggul Cruise

Wake up by the calls of nature. Early morning, take a river trip to Pitas Oxbow Lake to observe wildlife. After breakfast, briefing about the Tree Planting Project, which was the project specially designed to help the locals. You are invited to join The Most Beautiful House Competition, enjoy a simple lunch arranged by the villagers at Abai Village. After lunch, cruise up river to Sukau village in search of primates especially the wild orang utan, birds, pygmy elephant and other wildlife. Arrive Sukau, check in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late afternoon, take another river cruise to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge.

Day 9 - Beach

After breakfast, transfer by boat back to Sandakan. Upon arrival at the jetty, lunch before transfer to the airport for your flight to Penang or Langkawi Kinabalu. On arrival transfer to your resort for a five night stay. If you can’t see your ideal hotel here just let us know - we have a wide selection of properties to offer!

Days 10-14 - Beach

You now have some time to relax at your resort! Penang offers a great mix of relaxation and sightseeing, while Langkawi has a more relaxed feel overall - there’s something for everyone!

Day 15 - Beach to UK

Return transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

This three night tour of Borneo’s Sabah state will get you up close to its unique wildlife, including the Orang Utan, as well as the stunning countryside. Include a stopover in KL and the beaches of Borneo too for the perfect itinerary.
