Karen, your guide to Penang from Escape Worldwide.
“I love the atmosphere of Penang, it’s great fun with plenty to do beoyond the beach, and some excellent food!”
What to do in Penang
The Island's capital, Georgetown, is well worth exploring, with influences from differing cultures and eras adding to its historic feel. Away from the coast, Penang is hilly and lush, and getting away from the beach can be most rewarding. The beach areas along the Island's north coast, however, are the main draw, and offer a relaxed option for a fun-filled holiday.
Where to stay in Penang
Most of the beaches are located along the north of the island, with bustling Batu Ferringhi being home to a great selection of places to stay, eat and drink. Check out the food market in the centre of the resort for a great selection of local food at low prices. Between here and Georgetown, Tanjung Bungah is a smaller resort area that also has a number of hotels.
Holiday ideas to Penang
Spend a week or two simply relaxing in Penang, or combine Penang with Kuala Lumpur for an interesting twin centre holiday. Penang can also be combined with other locations such as Borneo or Singapore for an excellent multi centre itinerary combining Penang and beyond.
Once one of the most important cities in the Far East, today Penang is a mix of beaches and culture, history and relaxation. A fairly small island located off Malaysia's west coast, Penang holds a wealth of interest to today's visitor on a holiday to Penang. A chain of beaches along the north coast welcome most visitors, while nearby Georgetown is UNESCO Heritage listed and packed with interest.
