This short 3-night safari is perfect for a first-time safari goer or those pushed for time. By spending one night at one of the Rift Valley Lakes and two nights in the magnificent Masai Mara you have the chance to see the very best of two aspects of this wondrous country. The birdlife at the lake is absolutely superb and the wildlife in the Masai Mara is second to none.

ITINERARY

Day 1 - Depart

Fly from Heathrow to Nairobi, arriving the next day. Regional departures from around the UK are also available.

Day 2 - Aberdares

You’ll be met on arrival at Nairobi airport, and transferred to the nearby Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up and store any beach luggage that you don’t want to take on safari. Depart towards the Great Rift Valley and to the Rift Valley Lake of Naivasha (approximately 120 kms), arriving in time for lunch. Check in to your lodge, which offers a wonderful mix of tranquillity in serene surroundings, and a varied number of sporting activities for both the energetic and the more laid back. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. Lake Naivasha is the focus of activity, but the abundant bird life and several activities in the area mean there is never a shortage of things to do. Overnight: Lake Naivasha Country Club (lunch and dinner included).

Day 3 - Masai Mara

Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve (280 km), arriving in time for lunch at your camp. Ashnil Mara Camp is perfectly positioned at the confluence of the Mara and Olkeju Rivers in the Masai Mara National Reserve, with tents sitting alongside the riverbank. This is an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting, and is close to the action during the annual wildebeest migration. After lunch a game drive will introduce you to this incredible game reserve. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (lunch and dinner included).

Day 4 - Masai Mara

Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge - alternatively, there’s an opportunity for a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara (optional extra) in the early morning, followed by breakfast (complete with sparkling wine) in the bush - it’s an amazing experience, and one we’d highly recommend. In the afternoon a second game drive will show you more of the Masai Mara’s wildlife. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp (lunch and dinner included).

Day 5 - Depart

After breakfast, return to Nairobi by road (300 km), or for a supplement there's the option to fly by light aircraft from the Masai Mara to Nairobi (do bear in mind that this limits your luggage allowance for the whole safari). When you arrive in to Nairobi proceed with your onward travel arrangement (breakfast included).

This is a group itinerary which operates with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 passengers, all guaranteed a window seat.

On occasion the itinerary may operate in a different order, or different lodges used according to availability and road conditions.

Travel times vary on road conditions and game sightings.

Pack a mixture of warm and light clothing in soft bags, plus sunglasses, camera and insect repellent.
