BEST BEACH FOR . . . NON-STOP ACTION
Thailand’s most famous beach, Patong is two miles of golden sands backed by a near-endless array of bars, restaurants and shops providing round the clock entertainment - it's the perfect pace for non-stop action!
During the day the focus is on the beach itself, where paragliding and jet skis are popular, with local bars serving tasty Thai snacks and cold beer. The southern end of the beach tends to be more peaceful, but after a few minutes walking things start to get busier. Rent a sunlounger for a few hours and watch the world go by - there's all sorts going on here, from massage and snacks to water sports and more. Patong is one of the calmest bays along this coast, so year-round it's great for activities.
When you're done with the beach, watch the sunset from one of the rooftop bars that line the beach, where cheap, cold beers await - many of the bars also serve snacks (Patong can become one giant beer and snack crawl if you're not careful!) and as day starts to turn to night the lights of Patong take over from the sun.
As the night continues you’re bound to end up in Bangla Road, the heart of Patong’s vibrant night scene, where throngs of tourists head for the beer bars and nightclubs until the early hours. The road becomes pedestrianised each evening, and its lined with bars. Some find this area a bit seedy, but it's very light-hearted and great fun. The bars and clubs keep going until the small hours, but our recommendation is to head back to the beach road, where the small cafes will serve you one last snack and beer! |
