Hue is one of Vietnam’s most historically important cities, and a few days here will show you its influence in Vietnam life, from cultural innovation to religious intrigue. The former capital of Vietnam, Hue city is dominated by the imposing Citadel, while the beaches outside of town are fairly unspoilt. Hue is also an excellent place for local food and - especially - superb beers. What’s not to love about Hue?!
Mark, your guide to Hue from Escape Worldwide.
“Hue is packed with interest and the Citadel is a classic sight - plus the food and beer here are particularly good!”
What to do in Hue
Hue is full of historic interest, plus the more modern side of the town is worth exploring too. Spend a few days taking in key sites including the vast Citadel, while out of town Thien Mu Pagoda and Royal Tombs are worth visiting and easy to get to. Take a cruise on the Perfume River that dominates the town, or if you have a little longer relax on the nearby beaches.
Where to stay in Hue
Hue offers a small range of hotel options, with most located in the city centre close to the Perfume River - a good choice for a short stopover, with plenty of character available. Beach hotels are located around 30 minutes from the centre of Hue, and are perfect for a longer stay with a relaxed atmosphere.
Holiday ideas to Hue
We’d recommend spending two or three nights in Hue to explore its history, or a little longer for a beach break too. Build Hue in to a longer itinerary by combining it with Hanoi, Saigon or other areas of Vietnam, plus it’s easy to combine Hue and Danang or Hue and Hoi An as the areas are driving distance apart.
