Distances are big so allow plenty of time, but with open roads, easy driving conditions and familiar rules it’s an easy place to self-drive - we thoroughly recommend it for the sense of freedom and ability to explore and discover at your own pace.

Car Rental
Cars can be rented by anyone aged 21 and over who hold a current, full British driving licence which they have held for at least 12 months. Car rental depots are available in most main locations allowing for total flexibility for itineraries. We offer a wide range of vehicle options to suit - 4WD vehicles are necessary in certain locations (min age 25 years).
You’ll need a credit card in the lead drivers name for a security deposit when collecting your vehicle, and all additional drivers will also need their driving licences. The DVLA’s one-time passcode is also required for all drivers.
Driving is straightforward with many laws being the same as in the UK. Outside of the main cities traffic tends to be light. Toll roads and bridges are found around some major cities, so keep an eye out!
Motorhome &
Campervan Rental
A motorhome or campervan gives you the flexibility to explore Australia at your own pace, and brings a completely different element to any itinerary - your vehicle becomes your hotel so there’s no need to check in and out every day - pull up, put the handbrake on and open a beer! Campervans are part of the Australian way of life, and having a campervan for the driving part of a trip will be as much of a highlight of the itinerary as a mode of transport.
Campsites and caravan parks are plentiful in Australia and often offer excellent facilities such as showers and barbecues, as well as the all-important necessities such as water and electricity - they also throw in a bit chunk of Aussie lifestyle, so are the perfect way to go. Pre-booking sites is recommended at busy times of year and in popular locations year-round.
