Darren, your guide to New York from Escape Worldwide.
“Every time I visit New York I see a different side of the city - it’s one of the world’s greatest cities, one trip isn’t enough!”
The “Big Apple”, the “city that never sleeps” – New York City has been given many pseudonyms but none of them quite do justice to America’s most vibrant and exciting city. From the glamour of the Upper West Side to super-cool SoHo, from the hustle and bustle of Midtown and the Theatre District to laid-back Greenwich Village – New York is all about neighbourhoods. We Love New York!
What to do in New York
Hop on the subway or take one of the city’s famous yellow taxis to explore this adrenaline-charged city, visiting landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station. For us, an open-top bus is actually the best way to see all the main sights in a fairly short time. Be sure to leave time just to soak up the atmosphere - head to Central Park on a sunny weekend, take the ferry to Staten Island or walk over the Brooklyn Bridge - part way at least!
Where to stay in New York
There’s a myriad of hotel options in and around New York, and location is key here - for us, a location from Central Park to Madison Square Park is best for a short sightseeing break, or if you’re here for a longer stay then you may want to consider staying outside of Central Manhattan for lower hotel costs.
Holiday ideas to New York
New York is the perfect city break, but also combines brilliantly with other areas of the US and Caribbean. The city combines straightforwardly with Boston, Washington or Philadelphia via Amtrak’s excellent rail connections, or fly on to pretty much anywhere else in the US or Caribbean - New York is one of the best connected cities in America, so most itineraries are possible.
