At Escape Worldwide we've been visiting the resorts of Egypt and the Red Sea in recent weeks, to see for ourselves what a holiday there is all about, following the recent change in government. Darren made his first visit to the resort of Makadi Bay, just south of Hurghada, to check out one of Egypt's newer family-focussed resorts. |

"One of the best family resorts on the Red Sea, Makadi Bay is easy to get to, relaxed and offers a good range of quality hotels. I checked out a few hotels due to open in the coming months, including the gorgeous Makadi Spa, set to be one of the most stylish properties in Egypt, and the Sunwing Waterworld with its water slides, wave pool and family fun. Current options include rooms large enough to take a family of six - a superb option for larger families.
This was my first visit to Makadi Bay, and I have to say I was really impressed, both by the quality and by the style of the resort. There are a number of resorts along the Red Sea and it's easy to think they're all pretty much the same, but you'd be wrong.
While Sharm and Hurghada have a more traditional feel in places, newer resorts such as Makadi Bay along with Taba Heights and El Gouna have been designed to offer a more modern approach, but still with a feel of Egypt in their architecture. Makadi Bay is one of the most family-friendly of the resorts, with spacious, quality hotels (the new Sunwing Waterworld Makadi is a really exciting development as it offers a water park complex on site - it's due to open soon!) and a little interest outside of the hotels, Stroll along the promenade to the resort centre for low-key nightlife, or during the day head up the coast to Hurghada to visit the modern malls or the traditional bazaars.
There's a good range of excursions available from Makadi Bay - head to the Nile Valley for your fill of Egyptian history, or stay closer to the resort with a desert safari, Then there's the Red Sea, of course,
with some of the world's best diving and snorkelling right on your doorstep.
Makadi Bay makes a great option for a relaxed holiday, either with kids or without, with the rest of Egypt on your doorstep yet no hassle or hard work to get to - perfect!" |
