Islet Escapades
Managed by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, this beautiful islet is home to protected flora and fauna including indigenous plants and ebony forests that were once home to the now extinct dodo. Rare species such as the pink pigeon, day gecko and Aldabra tortoise can survive in total freedom in this wonderful haven. Continue through Blue Bay National Marine Park to the idyllic private island of Ile des Deux Cocos, fringed with clear waters and white-sand beaches. Visit Follies, a beautiful villa built over a century ago by a British governor. Enjoy snorkelling or a glass bottom boat ride in the marine park before savouring a barbecue lunch over acoustic guitars and singing. Spend the afternoon exploring or relaxing on the island.

What to do in Mauritius
Mauritius is a perfect holiday destination. With glorious beaches and great hotels, it's a perfect place to do nothing. The resort areas of Flic En Flac and Grande Baie offer a range of markets, bars and restaurants, while the west coast offers dolphin spotting opportunities and the east coast at Ile Aux Cerfs is great for water sports. Golf courses are plentiful, while the interior is lush and scenic - take a day trip in to the hills. It's also a great family destination, with many hotels having excellent kids clubs.
Where to stay in Mauritius
Mauritius has an excellent range of hotels, with many being world-class. Grand Baie and hotels such as the Coin De Mire Attitude, or Flic En Flac with options such as La Pirogue, are good options if you like to eat out. The more remote south coast is a perfect hideaway, with hotels such as the Heritage Awali Resort being ideal for relaxation. Standards tend to be high, although there’s an improving range of options that won’t break the bank.

“Cosmopolitan Mauritius is a surprisingly large island, 1200 miles from Africa in the middle of Nowhere. The mix of people and cultures give it a unique feel and there’s more to it than just the beaches, while the range of top quality hotels gives the visitor everything required for a perfect holiday to Mauritius - it’s one of my favourite parts of the Indian Ocean - perfect for relaxation with a touch of exploration.”
