Mark enjoyed a delicious traditional meal at the Abou El Sid Egyptian restaurant, located in the heart of Naama Bay, Sharm el Sheikh. A fan of just about all Middle Eastern food (please don't get him started on Lebanese food!), the falafel was a particular favourite - a top recommendation if you're looking for a genuinely Egyptian meal in Sharm.
Sharm has something to offer everyone when it comes to food, from international brands such as McDonalds, KFC and Hard Rock Cafe to local delicacies from the Middle East. There are some particularly good Lebanese options (our personal favourite is the one at the top of the main pedestrian road in Naama Bay, opposite KFC, where flatbread is constantly cooked in a large oven at the entrance - superb and cheap too!) but for something a little more local, try the Abou El Sid restaurant, next to the Hard Rock Cafe, again in the heart of Naama Bay.
There's indoor and outdoor seating (the air-con inside is a welcome relief from high temperatures outside, even in the evenings!) and the decor continues the typically Egyptian theme. One great thing about Abou El Sid is that it's not a themed restaurant for the benefit of foreign tourists - most diners are locals or visiting Egyptians, which must be a strong recommendation in itself!
The menu is extensive, with some fabulous appertisers - try the mezze-style platter if you're not sure where to start! The mixed grills for a main course come highly recommended, but the staff are really helpful so if you don't know much about Egyptian food just ask for their recommendation - it's all very tasty, and nothing will blow your head off, so take the opportunity to try something new!
Finish off your meal with a traditional water pipe - a relaxing end to a fabulously Egyptian meal! |
