Mark, your guide to Cape Town from Escape Worldwide.
“I’ve been to Cape Town six times and it gets better each time - top tip is to head to Table Mountain as soon as clouds lift!”
What to do in Cape Town
There’s loads to see and do in Cape Town - the hop-on hop-off buses are a great way to make the most of your time. The city centre is the historic centre of things and neighbourhoods close by are full of colour, while the V&A Waterfront development is today’s centre for visitors, with it’s restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Allow time to visit moving Robben Island, and take a day to explore the nearby Cape Peninsula. Our top tip - if the weather is good and Table Mountain is cloud-free, head straight up it as the weather can change quickly!
Where to stay in Cape Town
Cape Town has one of the widest selection of hotels of anywhere in South Africa, from small boutique properties to larger international hotels. Many options are at or close to the V&A Waterfront, with its shops and restaurants plus easy access to other areas, while the city centre is great for a more authentic feel. The Atlantic Seaboard towns of Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Camps Bay offer a more relaxed feel.
Holiday ideas to Cape Town
Spend a few days exploring Cape Town as a city break, or combine it with other parts of South Africa, or beyond - start in Cape Town before driving along the Garden Route and perhaps then going on safari in the Eastern Cape, or fly from Cape Town to Kruger, or perhaps on to the beaches of Mauritius or Mozambique.
“...The most stately thing, the fairest Cape we saw in the whole circumference of the earth” is how Sir Francis Drake described the Cape of Good Hope in 1580. Today many things may have changed but Cape Town, set between the sparkling waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the craggy heights of Table Mountain, is still one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
