Depart from Bangkok in the evening and settle into the privacy of your well-appointed compartment as your Eastern & Oriental Express journey begins. Watch the sun set over the passing countryside from the comfort of the unique observation car before dressing for dinner. Savour the culinary delights presented by the onboard chefs amid the elegant setting of the restaurant cars, and later enjoy a night cap while being entertained by the resident pianist in the sumptuous bar car. Retire to your compartment which has been converted into a cosy bedroom by your personal steward.

Day 6 - River Kwai

Later, the train arrives at the River Kwai station for passengers to disembark for a river cruise on a local raft, with a historian onboard to provide an overview of the railway and the bridge. At the landing point, travel by motor coach to the Thailand-Burma railway museum and perhaps, a visit to the Don Rak war cemetery. After your visit, return to the train for lunch and a relaxing afternoon. As night descends, enjoy a leisurely cocktail and delicious dinner. Overnight on board.

Day 7 - Kuala Kangsar - Kuala Lumpur

Indulge in a lie-in before breakfast in your cabin as the Eastern & Oriental Express enters Malaysia and a picturesque landscape of limestone massifs rearing from the rice fields. Spend the morning relaxing in the observation car or saloon lounge and watching the passing scenery. Lunch is served before arrival into Kuala Kangsar. Disembark for your guided tour of this fascinating royal town, taking in such sights as the Ubudiah Mosque, reputed to be one of Malaysia's most majestic. Following a view of the Royal Museum of Perak, the tour concludes at the Sultan Shah Gallery. Rejoin the train as it continues southwards through the lush rainforests and the rural west-coast towns of peninsular Malaysia. Prepare to enjoy dinner and an evening in the bar car. Overnight on board.
