WELCOME |
The
City of Salvador and the State of Bahia is one of the most
culturally rich areas of Brazil, where the influences of Portuguese
explorers and African slaves are still strong today. The sugar
cane from this region gave Brazil its first wealth, and Bahia
has been an important part of Brazil ever since. With warm
temperatures throughout the year and a fascinating mix of
history, culture, scenery and beaches, this is one of Brazil's
most rewarding regions. |

WHAT
TO DO |
Salvador
is the state capital and gateway to the rest of the State. It's
a fascinating city of over 2 million inhabitants, and well worth
exploring - it really comes to life every Tuesday night, when
the locals pour in to the streets for a good time. Further up
the coast, beaches spread away from the city, and the areas
around Praia Do Forte, with its turtle project, and the new
resort development at Costa Do Sauipe, make excellent bases
for exploring Bahia. |
WHERE
TO STAY |
There's
a good range of accommodation available in the various beach
resorts along the coast from Salvador to Costa Do Sauipe, with
those around the resort of Praia Do Forte generally being more
traditional. The purpose built resort of Costa Do Sauipe offers
internationally run hotels from well known brands such as Marriott
and Sofitel. |
HOLIDAY
IDEAS |
Spend
a week or two chilling on the beaches of Bahia, perhaps visiting
Salvador itself or simply relaxing with a good book and a few
cold beers. Alternatively, combine time in Salvador with other
areas of the COuntry, notably Rio de Janeiro and Iguacu. |
GETTING
THERE |
Holidays
in and around Salvador featured here are based on a direct Gatwick
to Salvador flight that operates weekly. Other departure days
and options are also available - ask for details. |
