Day 1: Havana
Welcome at Jose Marti Airport where you will be transferred to Old Havana for your overnight stay at the historic Sevilla Hotel or (upgraded option to luxury Parque Central hotel), both of which are situated in an excellent position within a very short walk of Old Havana. Overnight stay in Havana.
Day 2: Havana
After breakfast we will depart for a detailed guided sightseeing tour of Havana. A unique experience, the tour will visit all the major sights of the city including the historic Plaza de Armas and Plaza de la Catedral. We can absorb the atmosphere of the narrow cobblestone streets of Old Havana, flanked by old colonial buildings dating back as far as the 16th Century. We will visit the impressive Museum of the Revolution and stop at the Havana Club Rum Museum where there may be the chance to sample the different rums. A panoramic tour of El Morro fortress will follow, which offers beautiful view of Havana Bay. Lunch will be taken at the famous El Patio restaurant situated in a beautiful location overlooking the historic Cathedral Square in the heart of Old Havana, before continuing to the impressive Revolution Square overlooked by the mural of Ernesto “Che” Guevara with the tour ending with a drive along the “Malecon”, Havana’s seafront promenade. The remainder of the day will be at leisure to enjoy exploring Old Havana or relax by the hotel pool! In the evening dinner will be taken at restaurant Casa Espanola, a castle-like mansion with stained glass windows representing various regions of the country. After dinner we will enjoy the Tropicana Cabaret show, Cuba’s oldest and most famous cabaret show, known as the ‘Paradise under the Stars’, opened first in 1931. Overnight stay in Havana (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 3: Havana to Santa Clara and Trinidad
After breakfast we will journey east through the sugar plantations for the city of Santa Clara the final resting place of “Che Guevara”. On arrival we will visit the mausoleum and the museum dedicated to his extraordinary life, followed by a short orientation tour of the city including the train “Tren Blindado” that was attacked in the decisive moments of the Cuban Revolution. After lunch in a local hotel we will continue through the Escambray Mountains to Trinidad a UNESCO heritage site and one of the best-preserved colonial cities in the world. Overnight and dinner will be at the beautiful and luxurious Iberostar Grand Hotel, located in the town centre. Overnight stay in Trinidad (breakfast and lunch included).
Day 4: Trinidad
After a leisurely breakfast, we will explore Trinidad visiting either Palacio de Cantero or History Museum, followed by a visit to La Canchanchara, an old house dating back to the 18th Century, where we can try the unique Trinidad rum and sugar cane juice cocktail. Lunch will be taken at the Grand Hotel Trinidad and there will also be some time to explore the historic city independently. Dinner this evening will be taken in the hotel restaurant. Overnight stay in Trinidad (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 5: Trinidad to Cienfuegos
After breakfast, we will continue our tour to Cienfuegos, city known as ‘Perla del Sur’ (‘Pearl of the South’) due to its large boulevards, fascinating buildings and spectacular views over the bay. We will visit the city admiring the Neoclassical structures, some dating from 1815, and the Tomas Terry Theatre, a sumptuously colonial theatre. Lunch will be at Nautical Club restaurant, a beautiful restaurant with amazing views of the bay. The rest of the day will be free to walk around the city or enjoy the swimming pool at the hotel. We will have dinner in Palacio del Valle, a stunning Moorish-style palace. Overnight stay in Cienfuegos (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 6: Cienfuegos to Pinar Del Rio
Today we will be departing for Pinar Del Rio province, an area known throughout the world as Cuba’s main tobacco growing region, where steep sided “Mogote” mountains stand guard over fertile valleys. En route we will stop at Guama where we will take a boat through the mangrove swamps to a replica stilted Taino Indian village on the shores of Treasure Lake. Lunch will be taken in a local countryside restaurant. Tour will continue to Vinales, where we will overnight in Casa Particular's (Spanish for ‘private house’). These are normally run by Cuban families in the community and will be a chance to really experience Cuba and interact with the locals. Each Casa Particular is different and as they are small, the group will be split across different Casa Particulars. Dinner is arranged in a local restaurant. Overnight stay in Vinales (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 7: Vinales Valley
Today we will visit for the famous Vinales Valley, including stops to absorb the beauty of the area. We will experience how Cuba’s famous cigars are still handmade by local experts by visiting one of Pinar Del Rio’s famous Cigar Factories. There will be a subterranean boat ride through the El Indio limestone cave system followed by lunch in the Ranchon San Vicente countryside restaurant. Dinner will be provided at your local casa. In the late afternoon, you will return to your Casa Particular to relax in the patio or socialize with the local family. Overnight stay in Vinales (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 8: Havana
After breakfast, we will depart to Las Terrazas community, situated in the foothills of the Sierra del Rosario Ecological Reserve, for lunch in one of their specialized restaurants. After lunch we will transfer back to Havana for your overnight stay at the historic Sevilla Hotel or (upgraded option to luxury Parque Central hotel), both of which are situated in an excellent position within a very short walk of Old Havana. Day 9: Havana to Holguin to Bayamo
After breakfast transfer back to Havana airport for the flight to Holguin. After arriving to Holguin airport from Havana you will be welcomed by our guide and transferred by bus to the interesting city of Bayamo which has a nearly five-century-old history. Lunch will be taken at restaurant La Bodega, an appreciated restaurant in Bayamo. You will enjoy a city tour by horse and carriage (traditional in Bayamo) which includes some of the most relevant places for Cuba and its early history, such as the birthplace of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, also known as the Homeland's Father, or the panoramic visit of the house where the Cuba's National Anthem (La Bayamesa) was composed and sung for the first time. The day will continue with a walk in Plaza del Himno and a visit to San Salvador church. Dinner this evening will be in the hotel. Overnight stay in Bayamo (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 10: Bayamo to Santiago De Cuba
After a leisurely breakfast we will leave Bayamo and head towards Santiago de Cuba to the picturesque church of El Cobre, Cuba’s most sacred pilgrimage site and a shrine to Virgin Mary. Locals are adamant that this is the most beautiful location in Cuba and we will take a tour of the church and its many historic gifts bestowed by visitors! There will also be time to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery surrounding the church. Shortly after arriving in Santiago we will visit the central square Parque Cespedes, Calle Heredia, one of the city’s liveliest streets, and Padre Pico Street, made famous by the intense games of draughts played by the locals. Afterwards you can enjoy lunch in a traditional Cuban restaurant, followed by visit to Santa Ifigenia Cemetery to witness the change of guard at Jose Marti Mausoleum, the national heroe. Dinner this evening will be in the hotel. After dinner at the hotel there will be an optional visit to one of Cuba’s famous “Casa de la Trova” for live music - Cuban style! Overnight in Santiago (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 11: Santiago De Cuba
After breakfast at the hotel we will pass by the Moncada Barracks, continuing to Castillo Del Morro, a historical fortress offering fantastic views across the Caribbean Sea and the impressive Sierra Maestro mountains. Lunch awaits at Cayo Granma, reached by a short boat crossing, the restaurant looks out across the bay towards Morro Fortress; after lunch there will be time to wander around the small island before heading back to the hotel. The remainder of the afternoon will be at leisure to explore Santiago de Cuba independently or relax and catch the sun by the hotel pool! Dinner this evening will be in the hotel. Overnight in Santiago (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 12: Santiago De Cuba to Guantanamo to Baracoa
We will leave early in the morning and travel over the breath taking mountain scenery, past palm fringed bays and sleepy towns towards Guantanamo a typical Cuban town living in the shadow of the naval base. After a short orientation tour of Guantanamo with a chance to take lunch in the city we will continue to Baracoa, a fascinating and idyllic small town surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, where Christopher Columbus landed in Cuba on his first voyage. There will be an orientation tour of Baracoa including the possibility of a stroll down Baracoa’s seafront promenade the “Malecon”. Dinner this evening will be in the hotel. Overnight in Baracoa (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 13: Baracoa
After breakfast we will travel to Finca Duaba, a traditional Cuban farm surrounded by unspoilt tropical scenery, which gives an excellent insight into rural way of life in Cuba. The tour will continue with a visit to Rio Toa, Cuba’s widest river which runs through a UNESCO protected reserve where there will be a chance to have a short boat ride up the river and lunch will be taken in the reserve. In the afternoon we will return back to Baracoa with a chance to spend some time at leisure before taking dinner in the hotel. The evening will be at leisure to enjoy the local sights and sounds of Baracoa at night! Overnight in Baracoa (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).
Day 14: Baracoa to Humbolt National Park to Havana
Today we leave Baracoa and travel to Holguin city, stopping on the way to the Humbolt National Park, where you will have time to enjoy a short break and eat the lunch box provided for you. After lunch we will continue to Holguin, which has the popular title of City of Parks, where we will visit Parque Flores (named after the flowers that are sold every day, culminating on Sundays when it became a floral fair) and Parque Calixto Garcia, named after the general that fought in the Cuban War for Independence. You can enjoy some free time before heading for dinner at Hotel Mirador de Maybe, on the outskirts of the city of Holguín, from where it can be observed the extensive valley surrounding the city and where you can meet a popular personage Pancho, the Little Donkey, that drinks beer and chews crunchy chicharrones (pork rinds). You will afterwards be transferred to Holguin airport, where you will take the evening flight back to Havana say goodbye to the guide, as the tour will end at the airport. On arrival in Havana transfer to your hotel for a final night. Alternatively, transfer to Varadero for a beach stay (breakfast and lunch included).
Day 15: Havana to depart
Transfer back to Havana airport for your return flight to the UK (breakfast included).
