Full Day Tour with Lunch |

A
full day of exceptional sightseeing in and around Xi’an
commences with a visit to the world-renowned Terracotta Warriors.
Unearthed by accident in 1974 by peasant farmers searching
for water, the Terracotta Warriors are undoubtedly Xi’an’s
most significant attraction. Located over three sites, the
8,000 life size soldiers stand in traditional battle formation
in 11 columns over an ancient imperial necropolis, guarding
the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty.
Each soldier is unique, crafted by hand and originally painted
in a colourful uniform. After lunch return to Xi’an
to visit the imposing Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in 648
as a memorial to Crown Prince Li Zhi’s mother. Renovated
and restored many times since, it now climbs an impressive
200 feet high. We end the tour with a visit to the Great Mosque
and maze of alleyways that constitute the Muslim Quarter,
followed by a walk on the historic city walls, one of the
few remaining almost perfectly preserved examples of this
ancient form of city defence. |
