WELCOME
TO BORNEO |
The
huge island of Borneo is shared by Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia,
with Malaysia covering much of the northern side of the island.
A holiday to Borneo can be a breathtaking and most rewarding experience
- a haven for those in search of a different experience, with
tropical rainforest, pristine beaches, towering mountains
and diverse wildlife, including the famous Borneo Orang Utans, all available. |
|
WHAT
TO DO
ON BORNEO |
Most
visitors to Borneo head to Kota Kinabalu, in the State of
Sabah, a relatively modern city surrounded by beaches, mountains
and rainforest with the chance to get up close to the local wildlife, most
notably the indigenous Orang Utan. Kuching, the State capital
of neighbouing Sarawak, is the gateway to this end of the
region, and makes a great base to explore the little visited
interior, renowned for its local tribes, often visited on a tour of Sarawak. |
WHERE
TO STAY |
There are some excellent hotels in Borneo, mainly in the Kota Kinabalu area, making a great base for exploring the region's wildlife, or just for a relaxing beach holiday. Off the beaten track, standards can be basic and some accommodation is more rustic. |
HOLIDAY
IDEAS |
Head straight to Kota Kinabalu for a relaxing holiday, with the option to include a day trip or overnight visit to see the Orang Utans - a real highlight of any Far East trip. Alternatively, combine Borneo with Kuala Lumpur for an interesting twin centre holiday, or consider a Singapore and Borneo twin centre holiday or a Hong Kong plus Borneo holiday. Sarawak is more geared to touring and adventure trips. |
GETTING
TO BORNEO |
Scheduled flights operate daily to Kuala Lumpur from London
Heathrow, with regional departures from around the UK also
available with a change of planes en route. It's then a flight of around two hours to Kota Kinabalu, or slightly less to Kuching. |
